Margarita Kalcheva-Bulgaria

Margarita Kalcheva was born in Pleven, Bulgaria. She graduated from the “Panayot Pipkov” Secondary School with a degree in Irina Petrova and the National Academy of Music “Prof. P. Vladigerov ”in the double bass class of Professor Todor Toshev. She attended master classes with Prof. Victor Chuchkov and Michel Veyon.

Since 1998, Margarita has been the leader of the double bass group in the BNR Symphony Orchestra. Since 2009 she has been the conductor of double basses in the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa – Japan. She maintains her international profile and career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral double bass player around the world.

Her repertoire includes Botezini, Dittersdorf, Kusewicki, Tchaikovsky, Goleminov, Tabakov.

She has made numerous recordings and premieres, including a solo concert in Japan (2012), Rococo-Tchaikovsky Variations, Double Bass Concerto-Goleminov, Breavisimo -E. Morricone, “Yellow-Green” – D. Hristov.

Since 2015 she has been a lecturer at the Summer Academy – Sozopol with students from Bulgaria, Japan, Panama, Turkey, Germany.

In 2018 she started her double bass class at the New Bulgarian University-Sofia.
